FAQ
Answers to common questions about iri AI.
General
What is iri AI?
iri AI is a platform that reduces AI API costs by up to 40% through intelligent caching, prompt compression, and model routing. It works with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google AI.
How much does iri AI cost?
iri AI is free during the beta period. After beta, pricing will be based on a percentage of your savings — you only pay when we save you money.
Which AI providers are supported?
OpenAI (GPT-4, GPT-3.5), Anthropic (Claude models), and Google AI (Gemini). Additional providers are added regularly.
Is my data secure?
Yes. API keys are encrypted at rest. We do not store prompts or responses beyond what is needed for caching. We never train on your data.
How It Works
How does caching work?
When you send a request, we save the response. If you or anyone in your organization sends the same or similar request later, we return the cached response instantly without calling the API.
What is semantic matching?
Semantic matching understands the meaning of requests, not just exact text. 'What is the capital of France?' and 'france capital?' match the same cached response.
How does compression work?
We analyze prompts and remove redundant content while preserving meaning. This reduces token count and lowers costs.
What is smart routing?
Smart routing analyzes request complexity. Simple questions route to cheaper models like GPT-3.5, while complex tasks use more capable models.
Will optimization affect quality?
Caching returns identical responses. Compression with 'balanced' settings has minimal impact. Smart routing may affect complex tasks — monitor and adjust thresholds as needed.
Account
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No. Sign up is free. You only need API keys from your AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account and click Delete Account. This permanently removes all data, organizations, and API keys.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in page, click Forgot Password. Enter your email to receive a reset link valid for 24 hours.
Organizations
What is an organization?
An organization contains your settings, API keys, team members, and usage data. Most users have one organization. Larger teams may have multiple.
Can I be in multiple organizations?
Yes. You can create your own organizations and be invited to others, with different roles in each.
What is the difference between Admin, Member, and Viewer?
Admin has full access including API keys, settings, and member management. Member can use optimization and view personal usage. Viewer has read-only dashboard access.
How do I delete an organization?
Navigate to Settings in your organization and scroll to Delete Organization. Only Admins can delete organizations.
CLI & Extension
What is the difference between CLI and VS Code extension?
The CLI is a terminal tool for scripts and CI/CD. The extension integrates directly into VS Code/Cursor and works automatically in the background.
Do I need both?
No. Use whichever fits your workflow. The extension is easier for IDE users; the CLI is more flexible for automation.
Does the extension work with Cursor?
Yes. Cursor is built on VS Code, so the extension works identically.
How do I update?
CLI: Run the install command again. Extension: Download the new version and install it.
Troubleshooting
API key test is failing
Verify the complete key was copied without extra spaces. Check the key is active at the provider. Try generating a new key.
Not seeing any savings
Savings appear when caching activates (usually after the second identical request). Ensure caching is enabled. Allow time for cache to build.
Budget limit reached but no notification
Verify alerts are configured in the Policies tab. Check your email spam folder. Confirm email address in profile settings.
